What Is OCR?
OCR stands for optical character recognition. It is the process of detecting letters, numbers, and symbols inside an image and converting them into editable text that you can copy, search, translate, or reuse.
How OCR works
An OCR system first reads the image, looks for regions that resemble text, separates characters or words, and then predicts the matching text. The result is not a photograph of text anymore; it is machine-readable text that can be edited in a document, form, or application.
Easy OCR Converter sends uploaded images or image URLs to an OCR API, then displays the extracted text in an editable text box. The web tool is best for individual images such as screenshots, photos of documents, scanned pages, and receipts.
Where OCR works well
- Printed documents with sharp, high-contrast text.
- Screenshots with readable interface text.
- Photos that are well lit, cropped, and not heavily tilted.
- Single-language images where the correct OCR language is selected.
Common limitations
OCR can make mistakes when text is blurred, handwritten, curved, partly hidden, very small, or mixed with complex backgrounds. Tables, multi-column pages, stamps, and decorative fonts may also need manual cleanup after extraction.
Try it on your own image
Use the OCR tool to upload an image, select the language, and review the extracted text.
