How to Improve OCR Accuracy

OCR accuracy is usually limited by the input image. A few small changes before upload can save a lot of manual correction after extraction.

Before you upload

  • Crop the image so the document fills the frame.
  • Retake blurry photos instead of trying to rescue them later.
  • Use even lighting and avoid glare on glossy paper.
  • Straighten tilted pages and keep lines horizontal.
  • Choose the OCR language that matches the image.

Common OCR errors

OCR may confuse characters such as O and 0, I and 1, or rn and m. It can also merge words when spacing is tight, split words when letters are far apart, or lose formatting from tables and multi-column pages.

When manual review matters

Review extracted text carefully when working with receipts, invoices, identification numbers, medical documents, legal documents, or any text where a small error could change the meaning.

Test a cleaner version

If OCR output is weak, try a cropped, higher-contrast, straighter image and run the tool again.
